Glühwein aka Mulled Wine – Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

My husband has requested for many years that we have Glühwein at Christmas so this is the year he will get at least one of his Christmas wishes. This takes him back to the years he spent in Germany as a young teenager. He remembers the smells of pine boughs, candles glowing, and his Mom making this for the family to share.

Santa’s “Special” Cocoa ~ Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

“Santa Baby, hurry down the chimney tonight…..” I made this for my Santa to warm him with his favorite flavors. To make sure that you get just what you want from your Santa, ask him what he would like for Christmas in his special cocoa and get creative.

This hot cocoa is definitely a grown-up version, but you can make it kid-friendly too by omitting the liquor. For a special touch, I like to toast the marshmallow topping under the broiler or you can use a mini torch if you have one. Kids will think it is S’mores in a cup! The pinch of chili powder adds warmth and depth of flavor but not real heat. It’s the mystery ingredient that will make you cocoa extra special. The recipe can be doubled, tripled or more to please your whole family. The more the merrier!

Bayou Slime – Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

Bayou Slime

What makes Halloween so much fun is the creativity you get to unleash during every aspect of inventing the party. Turning your house into a spooky place where each little space holds something clever and creepy for your guests to enjoy. The same idea holds true for the cocktails. They are a part of the atmosphere you are creating. The transformation of an everyday house into an eerie space is like the transformation of the ordinary cocktail into a creepy libation.

Eyeball Martini

Like a simple black dress with a string of pearls, sometimes a simple cocktail with a creepy twist is just what an October Friday evening calls for. Invite a few friends to wind down after a hectic week and let them know you have had your eye on them.

Serve this with a variety of cheese and crackers. The olives are in the glass!

Green Eyed Tiger – Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

Green Eyed Tiger

I have somehow gathered up quite the collection of Midori and don’t know how this happened. It is not typically a liqueur that I would drink so it must be left over from some distant party memory. So I went on a mad search for a drink that would relieve some of the sweetness that goes along with Midori.  Continue reading

Captain Dave Cocktail – Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

Captured by the Pirate Captain!

Sir Admiral Henry Morgan was one of the most notorious and successful privateers from Wales, as well as one of the most dangerous pirates to terrorize the Spanish Main. He had the audacity to steal from the English, while sporting their cause at the same time!

He was also one of the few pirates able to retire from piracy, with most of his wealth intact and little legal retribution, to ultimately become the Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica. Now several centuries later, he has become the figurehead for the company he helped to make famous….The Captain Morgan Rum Company. Continue reading

Greek Mojito ~ Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!

Greek Mojito

“Mojito,” means “to cast a little spell,” and originated in Cuba. These drinks have become so popular that all kinds of twists to the original are popping up. The Greek spin on the cocktail is made with Metaxa, a Muscat-sweetened brandy, instead of rum.

Adjust the sugar and lime juice depending on how sweet or tart you like your Mojitos. Go Greek!
