Spicy Pecan Marmalade over Cream Cheese

Invite me to your house! I love it! Foodie friends make fantastic dishes of their own and it gives me inspiration and pleasure to share them. Every since I was a kid I loved to eat at other people’s houses. Sometime I got to eat things my Mom didn’t allow us to have! (she was very health conscious) What is it about the not so healthy stuff that is so alluring?

Right before Christmas we were invited to a progressive party with the neighbor’s of friends Scott and Lani. It was great fun, the food was so good and Lani put together a holiday songfest. Each guest received a tiny whistle pitched to a different note. Then we each got a page with 3 Christmas songs on it, with numbers under each note. The numbers corresponded to a number on each whistle. When your number came up, you blew your whistle…..well most of us did. And when someone didn’t or was out-of-sync, it sent us into fits of laughter! We did manage to make recognizable tunes, especially after our “dress rehearsal”! These come in holiday crackers along with jokes and paper party hats. Seriously a must have for your Christmas next year! It is a hoot!

Christmas carols with whistles

At Robin’s house we had several appetizers but one was particularly tasty and simple. Cream Cheese with a spicy cherry sauce over it. She served Brown Rice Sweet Potato Triscuits with this and the pairing was memorable. Thanks for the inspiration Robin!

After Christmas we were invited to Deb and Norms’ house for dinner and I needed a fun new appetizer to bring. Deb and I have known each other since Jr High and shared many fun adventures together! The greatest adventure of all was the trip with our high school choir to Europe! We were the only choir from the West Coast invited (after an audition) to tour and sing our way through Austria, Czechoslovakia and Hungry. Back then Czechoslovakia and Hungry were still communist ruled countries and their way of life was a stark contrast to ours in the United States. It was an amazing experience and left a lasting impression on all of us!

Speaking of impressions….this spicy, sweet and crunchy appetizer should leave your guests with a memorable impression too!
