It’s time to decorate the Christmas tree! I thought back to the Christmas trees of my childhood that were draped with little strands of tinsel and how much the decorations have changed. Well it’s not just the decorations that have changed but so have the cocktails. This week’s tasty treat has an amazing success story to go with it. I love stories like this!
Love my Leftovers!
I personally love leftovers! The flavors just get better and better and who could complain about the ease of dinner preparation for the next few nights. This is especially true for the Thanksgiving weekend in our house. It is finally “legal” to begin decorating for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and that is a lot of work! When we are finished decorating at the end of each day, I am so grateful for my Thanksgiving feast revisited.
The French 75+ – Friday’s 5 o’clock Wet Your Whistle Call!
The French 75+
Today we are celebrating with champagne because it is my birthday and I LOVE champagne!! Champagne represents elegant, festive fun and what better drink to add a little mystery to the party than the French 75.
Grateful for the Challenges
There is a familiar chill in the air. Thanksgiving Day is here! The Thanksgiving season is a great time to appreciate the small, as well as the big fortunes in life. Every year, around this time, I pause to take a look at my life and the people around me. I’m truly thankful for the little things that so often get overlooked.
Smokin’ Sweet Potato Casserole
Almost everyone I know loves Sweet Potato Casseroles, but not me! I have searched for one that will satisfy the sweet potato need in others and my love of smokey, spicy goodness. We tend to refer to everything as a sweet potato but what we are really wanting to use is the Yam. Yams will be an orangish-pink potato and will have the sweet flavor and fantastic color we are looking for. I think I have found the right combination of flavors for this recipe.
New Twist for Green Bean Casserole
We love this recipe from Cooking Light. This is the perfect counterpoint to balance the flavors of Thanksgiving which are rich and savory. Green beans are a common side dish for the holidays but we typically see the tired old mushroom soup green bean casserole. The citrus brightens the flavor of the beans and helps to cut through the rich flavors of our traditional Thanksgiving offerings.
We Gather Together to Give Thanks!
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to take a moment, stop, think about all that we have to be grateful for and give thanks. This can be done anywhere but there is something about going around the Thanksgiving table and having each person express what they are grateful for in their own words that brings us back to what this day is really all about. Give Thanks to the Hostess Gifts!
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to show your appreciation for the people that have made a difference in your life, especially when you have been invited to share the holiday meal with them. A lot of work goes into the creation of the Thanksgiving meal and what better way to say thank you to the hostess, than a thoughtful gift. Here are a few of my favorite ideas this season.
Thanks to our Veterans!
Today we thank the men and women of our military that have sacrificed and put our lives ahead of their own to defend the rights we enjoy in America. Many Americans don’t know the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Memorial Day honors service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle.
In Love with Butter Cream!
I was shocked! I am still amazed! I’m not much of a sweet eater and so have never been a fan of frosting. Now I realize that I am not a fan of cheap, sugary, granular frosting made with shortening substituted for butter……. but I am wild about Swiss Butter Cream frosting! It is so light, not sweet, almost a silky feeling on your tongue. I can’t find words to describe how wonderful it is so I will share the method to make it so you can have the experience yourself!
