Dessert Trends for 2011

 
A Few of My Favorite Things! 
Chantilly cream on strawberries, toasted meringue on lemon curd; dark chocolate cream tart layered with a salty bite of caramel, cranberry pear tarts and cupcakes and mousse. These are a few of my favorite things! Desserts are happy foods! It is not “stressed” spelled backwards. Especially, when we are talking about mini desserts. You can satisfy your sweet craving but you don’t have to over indulge.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to show your appreciation for the people that have made a difference in your life, especially when you have been invited to share the holiday meal with them. In Love with Butter Cream!

I was shocked! I am still amazed! I’m not much of a sweet eater and so have never been a fan of frosting. Now I realize that I am not a fan of cheap, sugary, granular frosting made with shortening substituted for butter……. but I am wild about Swiss Butter Cream frosting! It is so light, not sweet, almost a silky feeling on your tongue. I can’t find words to describe how wonderful it is so I will share the method to make it so you can have the experience yourself!

Ban the Can! …Canned Biscuits that is!

Life gets hectic and we reach for the canned biscuits in a tube. But once you make homemade biscuits and see how easy and incredibly better they are, you will never go for the canned tube style biscuit again, I promise! This week we learned how to make biscuits and my husband and I ate them for a week and they were still flaky and flavorful as the week went on; not in the least bit dry.

The devil is in the details as they say and what better time of year to have devilish details! Once your guests arrive and have taken in all the spooktacular decorations don’t forget that they will wander about so give them little details that will amuse and delight them. One of my favorites is bottles of creepy concoctions that will make you think you have been invited over to the Addams Family for cocktails!
